I love Eric Whitacre’s work. His music speaks deeply to me. His Virtual Choir pieces, though, achieves the highest levels of awesome. This one, Cloudburst (where gets bonus points from me as he based on an Octavio Paz poem) is stunning. Inspired by a Midwestern thunderstorm, the song captures the audio essence of the storm.… Continue reading Eric Whitacre’s Virtual Choir Live “Cloudburst” →

Steel Magic Northwest is a great local group (located in Edmonds) that provides access to music for a number of youth and adults. I know a number of kids, and adults, who benefit greatly. And they have a great time! The music is brilliant and the audience is having a grand time, too. https://youtu.be/oVDYsdkM6qI … Continue reading Steel Magic Northwest is close to meeting their Kickstarter Goal →

Ed Sheeran has not been terribly exciting to me. However, his song, Castle On The Hill delights me deeply. It’s opened me up to exploring more of his music. What do you think?

Just spent a moment exploring what’s available on YouTube, content-wise. Now, I love YouTubers like Casey Niestat and the like, but I was thinking about professional content. Things like Star Wars Rebels, movies, and other stuff. I was pleased by what I saw. A nice thing about purchasing content through YouTube: it can be watched on… Continue reading The future of video content →

Sitting here in suburban Bohemia Trendy music echos in rafters My elders march through Past darkened storefronts Embracing the silence of the zone. Sheltered from the sky Whether dry, cold or kind Like now, clouds filter sunlight The air chilled, night’s influence Lingering like the memory of dreams. At the edge I wait as Automotive… Continue reading A Meditation From Suburban Bohemia →

Ah, coffee’s less than delicate path to wakefulness! Sitting at this table, delights of my beverage’s geographic history playing on my palette, I consider my response to my friend’s question: “where were you on Nine Eleven?” An organ’s keys feel so much different than a piano or harpsichord. My church’s organist first let me sit… Continue reading Unexpected Reflections →

Earlier this evening I attended a performance by Aaron Strumpel at my church. Talking to the musicians afterwards, I was reminded of several ways that modern technology is changing the music business. Yeah, there’s tech impacting performance, but that’s not really what’s got me jazzed right now. No, it’s the way the music business is… Continue reading The independent artist and social media →
