I hope you are well, and that your new week is filled with joy and vibrance.
My friend and fellow blogger Pooja over at Life’s Fine Whine posted this quote yesterday. I felt this is one that strikes home, and is important to embrace if you’re living focused on growth.
Speaking for myself, it’s easy to expect that enacting positive life changes will all feel like smooth joy. No, often, it starts out HARD! Whether a diet, new exercise regime, training for a new role for work…with any of these changes, we start out needing to work hard in order to overcome our life’s inertia.
So, I recommend checking our Pooja’s blog, Life’s Fine Wine.
One thing that I need to do better: value my contributions. It’s so easy to fall into the trap of “my work does nothing”. This mindset sucks life away. Contributes to depressing destructiveness.
Remember: you have value. Your work matters. Your life matters.
I’ve long been familiar with Marcus Aurelius, though have never taken the deep dive into his work. However, this statement captures a deep truth for me.
This quote reminds me of a Steven Covey concept: Focusing on your Area of Influence. When we focus our efforts and energy on what we can impact, we become effective. Add that to “…you have power over your mind…”, and I see the power of focusing on our thoughts. Controlling our attitudes, I guess.
I find this quote by Sun Tzu very apt. Don’t believe you are entitled to success. Seek to earn it. That is the path. Or, as is popular in the current Zeitgeist (which is a bit redundant, I guess), “this is the way”.
For me, this is a famous and well-known quote. However, not everyone spends as much time with martial artists as I do. This came up in conversation today, and my friend hadn’t heard this quote. So, I thought it would be valuable to share.
I think this is particularly relevant today. Our fast-paced, manic, ever-shifting world being fluid and able to adjust is a critical career skill now. Be formless, take the form of wherever life takes you. There’s value in that.
Someone, somewhere, won’t like you no matter what you do. If you’re the nicest person ever, someone will despise you for being nice.
Therefore, be true to yourself.
Maybe I’m just silly, but I see similarities here. Maybe I like Snyder so much because he’s a Jedi Master?
I’ve long adored Snyder’s work and words. This one speaks to be strongly today. I hope it motivates you, gives you energy and helps you pursue your dreams.
