Watching the Flash with my son

My son and I have been watching the Flash on Netflix. It’s been a fun little bonding thing.

I love the show. Watching Barry Allen, and the people surrounding him evolve really delights me. And the ensemble of cast and crew gel very well.

We’ve made a pledge to not watch without the other, so that were in the same place in the continuum. Now I need to add that I grew up reading Flash comics. So there are times I see what’s coming since I now the new characters. But they’re done a good enough job tweaking their TV universe that you can’t assume a character’s comicbook identity will track. It’s a clever way to give homage to the DC legacy but not be terribly predictable.

Now, at times they flirt with the edge of cheesy. Every one of their Christmas episodes makes me worry. Though I have a bias about the weird games screenwriters play with any sort of holiday, but they’ve done well so far. Yet, I still wonder about the need for holiday specials, but that’s just me.

Now we’re about halfway through the second season. Netflix has through season three. It’ll be fun, especially if we get more seasons. If not, we’ll then move over to Arrow and keep the DC stream going.

Gotta love those home renovation shows on TV

Finally made it to taekwondo yesterday and the gym today. This after a several week sabbatical of sorts. Was fighting a nasty cold for a few weeks, then sprained my ankle at taekwondo. Now, that sounds better than the full description. I sprained my ankle, at taekwondo, after my third JUMPING JACK! Jeez…I’m a black belt who can land jumping back kicks, and I lose my ability to walk normally from jumping jacks. Ugh!

Anyway, I’m slowly coming back up to speed, and didn’t push myself that hard tonight. Spent about 1/2 hour on the treadmill watching one of the real estate shows. This one is about buying fixers and flipping them.

I’ve seen the show before, and recognize the hosts. I admire their work, find the subject interesting. But…BUT…elements of the show boggle me. Today there was one moment where the project was nearly derailed because, in Torrence, CA, there’s a code preventing powerlines from crossing above pools. I get that, and it makes sense. What doesn’t, though, is how no one discovers this until the concrete patio has been poured. How did they get permits without having this addressed? Maybe California is different, and the grant permits after you build. But that seems quite daft.

The other thing this evening, which almost caused me to truly laugh out loud, was this shot where a host discovers a rat in this nasty, messy bank repo property. Now, don’t get me wrong, many of these houses have rats. When I was working for a real estate company selling bank owned properties, we had many. However, the rats were never, EVER a pristine white. Nor were they demure, like the one in the ad. The ones I’ve seen would hiss and snarl at you, and quite possibly chase you.

Anyway, that’s just my experience ruining the suspension of disbelieve. Don’t let that stop you from enjoying the shows. Just now that those shows aren’t, well, “exactly” realistic. So, having a team of folks who knows what they’re doing might be a worthwhile investment.

Update on Star Wars Rebels and iTunes

I logged into iTunes yesterday and, boom, there it was: the opportunity to buy the season pass for Star Wars Rebels season 3. Funny, really, that, even after writing about it and tagging the official accounts of Star Wars, et al, I heard nothing from the official channels. Engaging fans is a pretty important thing to do in today’s environment, especially considering last year’s pricing gaff.

So, anyway, here we are.

Wondering about Star Wars Rebels and iTunes

…or Amazon, or anywhere. Last season I bought the season pass to both halves of the season (to my chagrin and annoyance). With the premier of Season 3 coming next week, I’ve been wondering when I’ll be able to buy the iTunes season pass. And I can’t find anything. It’s not in iTunes. Spent quite some time on the Google. Nada. I’d expect them to be pushing the season pass really soon. But it’s pretty quiet in internet-land.

I wonder if there’s some negotiation point hanging things up. Or if season two’s season-pass-gate soured folks. Or created some fear? Or…

Anyways, any of you heard something? I’d appreciate some insights if you got ’em. Or did I just need to subscribe to Disney XD? Bleh!

UPDATED: Star Wars Rebels Season 3 is NOW on iTunes, for all us cord-cutters. With that, the season pass reflects the cost of last year, what with the split season. That’s my assumption, at least. $39.99 is pretty steep if Disney plans on subdividing the season again.
